Description in 1871:
"STAPLETON, a chapelry in Barwell parish, Leicester; 3¾ miles NNE of Hinckley r. station. Post town, Hinckley. Acres, 1,380. Real property, £2,405. Pop., 240. Houses, 53. The manor belongs to Mrs. Heaford. The living is annexed to Barwell. The church is old, and has a tower and spire."

- The parish was in the Market Bosworth sub-district of the Market Bosworth Registration District.
- The 1851 Census for Leicestershire has been indexed by the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society. Volume 2 includes Stapleton which has been published on microfiche only.

- The Anglican parish church was dedicated to Saint Martin.
- Pevsner tells us that the church was originally built around 1300.
- The church was listed in 1841 as a small old building with tower and spire.
- The church was restored in 1904.
- The church seats about 100.

- The Anglican parish register dates from 1661 for baptisms, 1654 for marriages and 1652 for burials. Early portions are in very poor condition.
- Researchers should check the registers of Barwell as well.
- The church was in the rural deanery of Sparkenhoe (second portion).
- The Primitive Methodists had a chapel built here in 1852.
- The parish was in the Market Bosworth sub-district of the Market Bosworth Registration District.
- Civil Registration began in July, 1837.
Stapleton is a village, a township, a chapelry and a parish standing 5 miles south of Market Bosworth and 3 miles north of Hinckley. The parish covered 1,380 acres.
The village is on the old Hinckley to Ashby road (now the A447). If you are planning a visit:
- By automobile, take the A447 north out of Hinckley for about 3 miles. The road passes down the eastern edge of the village.

- Richard III encamped near this village on the eve of the Battle of Bosworth Field, 22 August 1485.
- This was farm country with some light brickmaking as well.

There is a stone plinth outside of St. Martin's church which was dedicated as a war memorial after World War I.
- Stapleton was an ancient chapelry in Barwell parish in Leicester county and became a modern Civil Parish in December, 1866.
- The parish lies in the Sparkenhoe Hundred (Wapentake) in the southern division of the county.
- In 1935, this Civil Parish was abolished and all 1,365 acres merged with Peckleton Civil Parish.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish became part of the Market Bosworth Poorlaw Union.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Market Bosworth petty sessional hearings.
