- The parish was in the Melton Mowbray sub-district of the Melton Mowbray Registration District.
- In 1935, the parish was transfered to the Melton and Belvoir Registration District.
- The 1851 Census for Leicestershire has been indexed by the Leicestershire & Rutland Family History Society. The whole index is available on microfiche. The society has also published it in print.

- There was an ancient priory here before the Dissolution. A new priory was built in the early 15th century.
- Alan MURRAY-RUST has a photograph of the new Shoby Priory on Geo-graph, taken in April, 2015.
- There was no Anglican parish church at Shoby.
- Most of the inhabitants attended church at Saxelby according to Kelly's 1925 Directory.
- Parisioners would attend the Anglican churches at Saxelby and Asfordby, so look for all christening, marriage and burial records in those church registers.
- Civil Registration began in July, 1837.
- The parish was in the Melton Mowbray sub-district of the Melton Mowbray Registration District.
- In 1935, the parish was transfered to the Melton and Belvoir Registration District.
Shoby is a small parish which lies about 4.5 miles west of Melton Mobray. The parish covered just 969 acres, most of which was pasture for sheep and cattle.
The parish in 1881 consisted of two farms and some scattered houses. If you are planning a visit:

According to Parish Council minutes, the village has a War Memorial Hedge. The web page author could find no other mention of a war memorial for this quiet village.
- Although "Shoby" is the prefered usage, this parish also appears in old records as "Siwoldby".
- The parish was in the eastern division of the county.
- This parish was an "ancient parish" of Leicestershire until 1428, when it became an extra-parochial area.
- In 1858, the parish was formally established as a Civil Parish.
- In April, 1936, the parish of Shoby was abolished to enlarge Grimston Civil Parish.
- The former parish has been merged into the Grimston, Saxelby and Shoby parish.
- The parish is currently part of the Melton Borough Council.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Melton Mowbray petty session hearings.
- As a result of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act, this parish became part of the Melton Mowbray Poorlaw Union.
