It was founded in 1698 and the chapel was built in 1873. It closed in 1951. The building was auctioned in May 1952, being purchased for £550 by the Stainton Congregational Recreation Fund, for use as a community centre.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church.
