It was founded in 1957. All Saints Church in Cyprus Street was bombed in 1940 (see plaque on wall of flats which have been built on site). Services continued to be held in the adjacent church hall in School Road until 1947. In 1947 the congregation was merged with that of Manor Hall at Sevenways, which was a daughter church of the neighbouring parish of St Matthews. The Curate i/c, Rev J.R. Smith, becoming the Rector. Eventually the War Damage Commission payment was negotiated and the present church built being consecrated on 16th February 1957. It was not rebuilt on the Cyprus Street site because the Bishop of Manchester decreed that a C of E church should be within 20 minutes walk of all who lived in the diocese.
