It was founded in 1839. It closed before 1970.
This Chapel was opened in 1839 and was situated lower down than the old police station. It was enlarged in 1861. The original chapel was closed on 20.3.1887 and was replaced by a new building of which the foundation stone was laid on 11th May 1887 and the opening service was held 23rd August 1888. It was demolished in the clearance of the 1960's.
In 1907 the United Methodist Free Church merged with the Methodist New Connexion and the Bible Christians to form the United Methodist Church.
In 1932 the United Methodists joined with the Wesleyan Methodists and the Primitive Methodists to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain.
