The Manchester Theological College opened in 1881 to train students for the Primitive Methodist ministry. It was renamed in 1906 after the industrialist Sir William Hartley. In 1934 it amalgamated with the nearby Victoria Park College and became the Hartley Victoria College.
It is now Kassim Darwich Grammar School for Boys (Islamic)
The Primitive Methodist church was an early 19th century (1807) secession from the Wesleyan Methodist church and was particularly successful in evangelising agricultural and industrial communities at open meetings. In 1932 the Primitive Methodists joined with the Wesleyan Methodists and the United Methodists to form the Methodist Church of Great Britain.
The chapel records are held by John Rylands University Library, Deansgate, Manchester.
This site provides historical information about churches, other places of worship and cemeteries. It has no connection with the churches themselves.
