The chapel closed in October 1991. The main building still remains empty and in poor state despite various plans for use. The Sunday school building has been demolished. The congregation began in 1822 and had various homes until they built a chapel with school in 1836 which opened in 1837. This building then became the Sunday School, and was replaced in 1880, now demolished. The present chapel building was put up in 1860. They joined the Congregational Union in 1873.
The chapel was demolished in September 2013.
In 1972 the Congregational church joined with the English Presbyterian church to become the United Reformed Church.
