It is now closed and has been demolished, but we do not know the date of closure.
The Church of St.Nicholas was originally established within St.Nicholas School, School Road, which dates back to 1873. It was referred to by locals ("the mossers") as the "Moss Church". The part of the school originally used for worship still contains the distinctive window frames identifying it as a church. Around 1936 a new church was built on a site on Common Edge Road, about half a mile away from the School. This was a wooden building which served as the Church until 1965 when the later Church was built The wooden building remained in use as the Church Hall until both were demolished around 2005. The later chuch suffered from subsidence due to the original foundations not being deep enough to cope with the sandy ground and remedial action proved unaffordable. The land was sold for house building and the proceeds were put towards an extension of St.Nicholas school which had expanded significantly to cope with the transformation of the area from an isolated one which was largely agricultural to a normal residential area. Following the closure, the church joined with St.Christopher's and now operates as the combined parish of St.Christopher and St.Nicholas.
