The building purchased in 1997 from the local Brethren Assembly. At this time the old Baptist Church on Market Street was closed because of structural problems and the congregation relocated into the Trafford Street Building.

The building was originally built as a Welsh Presbyterian Chapel and was the worshipping place for many Welsh families who had moved into the area.

When renovating the building part of a mural was found with a verse in Welsh painted onto one of the walls inside.
