It was founded in 1870.
St. Stephens School was built in 1870 and services were held there until the church was built in 1884.
In August 1870 St. Stephen's School was opened on Belbeck Street. The building was licensed by the Bishop of Manchester for Divine Service and Sunday School. Services were conducted by the Assistant Curate of Elton, the Reverend R. P. Linfield, and on the 1st January 1873 he started St. Stephen's Mission. A small stone font was presented to the school by Mr. Edward Robinson of Elton and the first baptism took place on 10th October 1874.
Whilst every effort has been made to record exact details of record office and library holdings you are recommended to check with them before visiting to ensure that they do hold the records and years you wish to examine. Similarly check with transcript publishers to ensure they cover the records and years you require before making a purchase.
There is a baptism register in MCL dating from 1874 and it appears that most of these baptisms are also entered in All Saints', Elton, baptism Register.
This site provides historical information about churches, other places of worship and cemeteries. It has no connection with the churches themselves. For current information you should contact them directly.
