CLIVIGER, a township in Whalley parish, Lancashire; on the Rose-Grove and Todmorden railway, near the source of the river Iswell, 3½ miles SE by S of Burnley. Acres, 6,160. Real property, £14,950; of which £7,870 are in mines, and £179 in quarries. Pop., 1,770. Houses, 346. The surface is hilly; the rocks include coal, iron ore, and lead ore; and the national productions include rare plants and rare birds of prey.

"CLIVIGER, a township in the parish of Whalley, in the higher division of the hundred of Blackburn, in the county of Lancaster, 3½ miles S.E. of Burnley. It is situated near the source of the river Irwell, and is a station on the Lancashire and Yorkshire line. Several Roman coins have been found. Here are coal, iron, and leadmines. The country, which is hilly, affords several rare botanical specimens, and was anciently noted for its falcons."
"HOLME, a chapelry in the township of Cliviger, and parish of Whalley, hundred of Blackburn, county Lancaster, 3 miles S.E. of Burnley by the Rose Grove, Burnley, and Todmorden branch of the Lancashire and Yorkshire railway, on which it is a station. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Manchester, value £101. There is a National school. Holme House was once the seat of Dr. Whitaker, the historian of Whalley."
