"EYTHORNE, a parish in the hundred of Eastry, lathe of St. Augustine, county Kent, 6 miles N.W. of Dover, and 7 S.W. of Sandwich, its post town. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Canterbury, value £400. The church is a small structure, dedicated to SS. Peter and Paul. The parochial charities produce about £11 per annum. The Baptists have a chapel, and there is a grammar school. In the neighbourhood are some barrows and traces of a Roman camp. A fair for toys and pedlery is held on Midsummer Day."
