"BURHAM, a parish in the hundred of Larkfield, lathe of Aylesford, in the county of Kent, 4 miles to the N.W. of Maidstone. Rochester is its post town. It is on the banks of the river Medway, at the foot of Burham Downs, near the North Kent branch of the South-Eastern railway. The parish contains some hop-grounds. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Rochester, value £191, in the patronage of C. Milner, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. The charitable endowments for the poor amount to about £25 per annum."
