“BARLEY, a parish in the hundred of Edwinstree, in the county of Hertford, 3 miles from Royston, its post town. It lies on the borders of Essex. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Rochester, of the value of £501, in the gift of the crown. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. The parochial charities, which include a small educational endowment, amount to £36 per annum."
