"WINFORTON, a parish in the hundred of HUNTINGTON, county of HEREFORD, 6 miles (N. E. by E.) from Hay, containing 169 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry and diocese of Hereford, rated in the king's books at £9. 6.8., and in the patronage of the Heirs of the late John Freeman, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Mary. A rail-road from Hay to Kington passes through the parish. A court leet is occasionally held here. A charity school has been endowed by the late Mr. Freeman."
