"FRESHWATER, a parish in the liberty of West Medina, Isle of Wight, county Hants, 2 miles S.W. of Yarmouth, its post town, and 10 W. of Newport.' It is situated at the western extremity of the island, and nearly separated from it by an inlet of the sea, known as Freshwater Gate, and by the river Yar; it is united on the southern side only by a narrow isthmus. The parish includes the hamlets of Easton, Middleton, Norton, and Weston. The varied features of this place render it an attractive spot. "
