[Description(s) from The National Gazetteer (1868)]
"TWYNING, a parish in the lower division of Kiftsgate hundred, county Gloucester, 2 miles N.E. of Tewkesbury, its post town, and 5 from Upton. The village, which is considerable, is situated on the road from Gloucester to Worcester, between the rivers Severn and Avon, and near the ferry over the latter river. The land is partly in common. There is a camp at Towbury, near which many Roman coins have been found. The living is a vicarage in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £180, in the patronage of Christ Church, Oxford. The church is dedicated to St. Mary Magdalene. The parochial charities produce about £25 per annum. There are National schools for both sexes and a Sunday-school. Showborow, Puckrup Hall, and the Manor House, are the principal residences. Miss Maxwell is lady of the manor. [Recorded as TWINING in Gazetteer -RL 2003]"
