"STANWAY, a parish in the upper division of Tewkesbury hundred, county Gloucester, 4½ miles S.W. of Broadway, its post town, and 3½ N.E. of Winchcombe. The village, which is small, is situated on the high road from Tewkesbury to Stow, near the Cotswolds. The parish includes the hamlets of Stanway Wood, Hornileazow, and Taddington. The Jackdaw slate quarry is situated on the summit of Stanway Hill. The parish derives its name from its being situated on the Roman road Stane Street. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, value £220. The church, dedicated to St. Peter, has a square tower containing four bells. The parochial charities produce about £10 per annum. Stanway House, the principal residence, is situated a short distance from the church. The Earl of Wemyss is lord of the manor and principal landowner.""TADDINGTON, a hamlet in the parish of Stanway, county Gloucester, 4 miles N.E. of Winchcombe."
