CAIN'S-CROSS, a hamlet in the parishes of Stroud, Stonehouse, and Randwick, hundreds of Bisley and Whitstone, in the county of Gloucester, 2 miles to the W. of Stroud. It is near the Great Western railway. Petty sessions are held, and there is a savings-bank in the village. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Gloucester and Bristol, in the patronage of T. C. Croome, Esq. The church, situated at Ebley, in the parish of Stonehouse, is dedicated to St. Matthew.
