“COLNE (WHITE), a parish in the Witham division
of the hundred of LEXDEN, county of ESSEX, 4 ½
miles (E.) from Halstead., containing 298 inhabitants.
The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of
Colchester, and diocese of London, endowed with £200
royal bounty, and in the patronage of W. E. Hume,
Esq. This parish has the river Colne on the south,
where also passes the Roman road from Colchester.”
