"UPMINSTER, a parish in the hundred of CHAFFORD, county of ESSEX, 4 miles (E. S. E.) from Romford, containing 952 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £26. 13. 4," and in the patronage of W. Holden, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. There is a place of worship for Independents. In the neighbourhood are many genteel residences: here is also a mineral spring.
