"SHENFIELD, a parish in the hundred of BARSTABLE, county of ESSEX, 1 mile (N. E. by N.) from Brentwood, containing 619 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £14. 18. 4., and in the patronage of the Countess de Grey, The church is dedicated to St. Mary."
