"RUNWELL, a parish in the hundred of CHELMSFORD,
county of ESSEX, 5 miles (N. W.) from Rayleigh,
containing 307 inhabitants. The living is a rectory,
in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London,
rated in the king's books at £13, and in the patronage
of Vicesimus Knox, Esq. The church is dedicated
to St. Mary. The Crouch river is navigable from the
