High Roding, is 33 miles from London, in Dunmow union and hundred. Rochester diocese, Essex archdeaconry, Roding deanery, was given by Leofwin, in the reign of King Edward the Confessor, to a Monastery in the Isle of Ely. Population in 1861 was 469 Acres 1,803".
"ROOTHING (HIGH), a parish in the hundred of DUNMOW, county of ESSEX, 4½ miles (S. W. by S.) from Great Dunmow, containing 388 inhabitants. The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry of Middlesex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £20, and in the patronage of Lord Rodney. The church is dedicated to All Saints."
