"DONYLAND (EAST), a parish in the Colchester
division of the hundred of LEXDEN, county of ESSEX,
3¼ miles (S. E. by S.) from Colchester, containing 562 inhabitants.
The living is a rectory, in the archdeaconry
of Colchester, and diocese of London, rated in the king's
books at £10. The Rev. Charles Hewitt was patron in
1801. The church is dedicated to St. Lawrence. The
navigable river Colne forms the eastern boundary of the
