“CHINGFORD, a parish in the hundred of WALTHAM, county of ESSEX, 9 ½ miles (N. N. E.) from London, containing 837 inhabitants. The living is a rectory in the archdeaconry of Essex, and diocese of London, rated in the king's books at £14. 5. 5., and in the patronage of J. Heathcote, Esq. The church, dedicated to All Saints, is a small building of flint and stone, with a low tower; it is in the later style of English architecture, and much overgrown with ivy. This parish lies on the border of Epping Forest, in which there is a house termed Queen Elizabeth's Lodge, where the courts under the forest laws are held.
