Chelmsford Is pleasantly situated in a valley, at the confluence of the Chelmer and the Cam, the gardens of the inhabitants on each side of the town extending to these rivers. Here are some good public buildings, and a fountain, or conduit, of excellent water; and the assizes and quarterly sessions for the county are held here. The great eastern road from London formerly passed through it, and the railroad now going by it at a short distance, has nearly doubled the size of the town. It is 29 miles from London.
