Berners Roding or Berwick Roding, is a parish in Dunmow hundred and Ongar union. Rochester diocese, Essex Archdeaconry, Roding deanery. Population in 1861 was 189 Acres 1,050.

"ROOTHING (BERNERS), a parish in the hundred of DUNMOW, county of ESSEX, 5¾ miles (N. E. by N.) from Chipping-Ongar, containing 93 inhabitants. The living is a perpetual curacy, in the archdeaconry of Middlesex, and diocese of London, endowed with £200 private benefaction, £400 royal bounty, and £500 parliamentary grant, and in the patronage of T.
