"The parish of St. Paul, Hartlepool was formed by an Order in Council, dated 26th June 1886, from All Saints, Stranton. The living is a vicarage in the patronage of the Bishop of Durham, and endowed with £150 from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, and from other sources receives £100 more."

"The Church of St. Paul, Grange Road, is an elegant structure of brick and stone in the Early English style, consisting of nave, aisles chancel, and at the north-west angle a fine lofty tower, ornamented with stone arcades, above which is the belfry, with handsome pointed arched openings of stone containing one bell, and surmounted with a perforated stone parapet, terminated by a pyramidal spire. The church was built in 1885."
