“WOOTTON-FITZPAINE, a parish in the hundred of Whitchurch-Canonicorum, county Dorset, 6 miles N.W. of Bridport, and 4 N.E. of Lyme-Regis, on a branch of the river Char. The soil is chalky, and the substratum abounds with flint and gravel. The principal proprietor is Colonel Luttrell, of Wootton House. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury, value £250. There are a parish school and some endowed almshouses."
