“TARRANT-HINTON, a parish in the hundred of Pimperne, county Dorset, 4¾ miles E. of Blandford, its post town. The village is situated at the head of the river Tarrant. Remains of a Roman villa and many ancient coins have been discovered. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Sarum, value £370. The church has a square tower containing three bells. The register dates from 1577. There is a National school for both sexes. James J. Farquharson, Esq., is lord of the manor."
