“STOCKWOOD, (or Stoke), a parish in the liberty of Sutton Poyntz, Dorchester division of county Dorset, 8 miles S.W. of Sherborne, its post town, and 8½ S.E. of Yeovil. The parish, which is inconsiderable, is situated near Melbury Park, and is chiefly agricultural. There is no village, only a few farmhouses. The surface is generally level, but surrounded with hills. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Sarum, value £160. The church is dedicated to St. Edwald.
