“SHILLINGSTONE, (or Shilling-okeford), a parish in the hundred of Cranborne, county Dorset, 5½ miles N.W. of Blandford Forum, and 4 E. of Sturminster. It is a station on the Somerset and Dorset railway, between Blandford and Sturminster Newton. The village, which is of small extent, is situated on the river Stour. The land is chiefly in pasture. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge of £370, and the glebe comprises 71 acres. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Sarum, value £460, in the patronage of Exeter College, Oxford. The church, dedicated to the Holy Rood, has a square embattled tower. There is a National school. The Wesleyans have a place of worship. In the village are traces of an ancient cross. Lord Rivers is lord of the manor.
