“PENTRIDGE, a parish in the hundred of Cranborne, county Dorset, 3½ miles N.W. of Cranborne, its post town, and 3½ N.E. of Wimborne. The village, which is of small extent, is situated under Pentridge down, near Ackling Ditch. It is wholly agricultural. The parish comprises the hamlet of East Woodyates. The tithes have been commuted for a rent-charge A £205, and the glebe comprises 49 acres. The living is a rectory* in the diocese of Sarum, value £214. The church, dedicated to St. Rumbold, has a spired tower containing four bells. The church was rebuilt and enlarged in 1857. The register dates from 1725. There is a school, which is partly supported by the Earl of Shaftesbury, and partly by the rector. The former is lord of the manor."
