"COMPTON, NETHER (ST. NICHOLAS), a parish, in the union and hundred of SHERBORNE, Sherborne division of DORSET, 2¾ miles (W. N. W.) from Sherborne; containing 456 inhabitants. "NETHER COMPTON, a parish in the hundred of Sherborne, in the county of Dorset 2 miles N.W. of Sherborne, its post town, and 4 from Yeovillage The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury, value with that of Over Compton,£300, in the patronage of J. Goodden, Esq., of Over Compton House. The church is dedicated to St. Nicholas. There is a school with a small endowment; the other charities produce £6 per annum.
