“MORDEN, a parish in the East Shaston division of the hundred of Loosebarrow, county Dorset, 5 miles N. of Wareham, and 7 N.E. of Poole Junction. Blandford is its post town. The village is of small extent and chiefly agricultural. The parish includes the hamlets of Charborough, Sandford, and Sherford. The living is a vicarage* in the diocese of Sarum, value £287. The church is an ancient edifice, with a square embattled tower crowned with pinnacles and containing four bells. The chancel contains a monument to the Erle family. The parochial charities produce about £255 per annum. There is a free school and a place of worship for the Wesleyans. Charborough Park, situated in a small dale and surrounded with wooded hills, is the seat of John Samuel Wanley Sawbridge Erle Drax, Esq., M.P., who is lord of the manor and sole landowner."

It was formerly a separate parish, but is now included in that of Morden. Charborough Park, the seat of the Drax family, is a fine old mansion, with a staircase painted by Thornhill. It was in this house that the plan of the Revolution of 1688 was discussed. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Salisbury, annexed to that of Morden. The church contains several monuments of the Drax family."
