“LITTLE BREDY, a parish in the hundred of Uggscombe, in the county of Dorset, 6 miles to the W. of Dorchester. It is situated at the source of the river Brede, or Bride, which runs from a small lake called Bridehead. Here is a quarry of good building stone, which supplied the material for Winterborne Abbey. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to the rectory of Long Bredy, in the diocese of Salisbury. The church is dedicated to St. Michael. There are some charities, producing about £3 a year.
