“HINTON ST. MARY, a parish in the hundred of Sturminster-Newton-Castle, Sturminster division of county Dorset, 1½ mile N. of Sturminster, and 8 miles S.W. of Shaftesbury. Blandford is its post town. The village, which is small, is situated near the river Stour, and is wholly agricultural. The living is a perpetual curacy annexed to the vicarage of Iwerne-Minster, in the diocese of Sarum. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, has a square tower. The register dates from 1534. The church contains some very antique monuments. The parochial charities produce about £9 per annum. There is a National school for both sexes; also a place of worship for the Primitive Methodists."
