“HALSTOCK, a parish in the liberty of Halstock, Sherborne division of county Dorset, 6 miles S.W. of Yeovil, its post town, and 6 N.E. of Beaminster. The road from Bridport to Yeovil passes through the village, which is considerable. The land is nearly evenly divided between arable, pasture, and woodland, with a small tract of common. The living is a perpetual curacy in the diocese of Sarum, value £200, in the patronage of the Prebendary of Halstock in Salisbury Cathedral. The church, dedicated to St. Mary, was rebuilt in 1846. It has a square tower, containing five bells. There is a charity bequest, producing about £10 per annum. Lord Abinger is lord of the manor."

"ABBOT'S HILL, a hamlet in the parish of Halstock, county of Dorset, 1½ mile E. of the village of Halstock, 8 miles N.E. of Beaminster, and 5 S.W. of Yeo village. A Roman mosaic pavement was discovered near this spot some years since by the Earl of Echester."
