"CHARLTON-MARSHALL, a parish, in the union of BLANDFORD, hundred of COGDEAN, Blandford division of DORSET, 1¾ mile (S. S. E.) from Blandford; containing 395 inhabitants. The living is annexed to the rectory of Spetisbury: the tithes Were commuted for land in 1799. The church contains some monuments to the family of Bastard, and one to the memory of Dr. Sloper. The National Gazetteer of Great Britain and Ireland - 1868

"CHARLTON MARSHALL, a parish in the East Shaston division of the hundred of Cogdean, in the county of Dorset, 2 miles S. of Blandford, its post town and railway station. It is situated on the river Stour, near the Central Dorset branch of the London and South-Western railway. The living is a curacy in the diocese of Salisbury, annexed to the rectory* of Spetisbury, value jointly, £517, in the patronage of J. S. Drax, Esq. The church is a flint edifice in the early English style, and was rebuilt in 1727 by Dr. Sloper, to whose memory it has a monument, as also one to Wake, the founder of the Corporation of the Sons of the Clergy. The Independents have a place of worship. The children of this parish are admitted to the free school at Spetisbury. There is an infant school. S. White, Esq., is lord of the manor. Roman coins have been discovered, and there are several barrows in the neighbourhood. The village is a meet for the Blackmoor Vale harriers."
