A Contribution to the Commercial History of Devonshire
Trans. Devon Assoc., 1890, Vol XXII, pp. 129-137.
by
H.W. Strong
Prepared by Michael Steer
The paper was delivered at the Association’s July 1890 Barnstaple meeting. The author’s purpose was to address the diversity and variability of the industrial occupations of North Devon inhabitants during the preceding five centuries. His objective was to illustrate that there is a continuity in the strong manufacturing bent of the people, and to indicate the nature of many contemporary major industries existing in North Devon. The article, from a copy of a rare and much sought-after journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
