The Mosses of Silverton

Prepared by Michael Steer

The Paper was presented at the Association’s 27th July 1910 Cullompton meeting. To enhance the comprehensiveness of his bryological research, the term ‘Silverton’ employed by the author includes a large, irregular piece of country stretching from Bickleigh to Brampford Speke along the valley of the Exe, and taking in both river banks; also the Burn valley, the hill between Butterleigh and Silverton, and all the land around Silverton as far as the Culm, and reaching to the junction of the Culm and the Exe. For genealogists this resultant record is a valuable source of names associated with the earliest research into our county’s unique bryology. The Paper, from a copy of a rare journal can be downloaded from the Internet Archive. Google has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. These books, on which copyright has expired, are available for free educational and research use, both as individual books and as full collections to aid researchers.
