BRANSCOMBE, a parish in the hundred of COLYTON, county of DEVON, 4¾ miles (E.) from Sidmouth, containing 773 inhabitants. The living is a vicarage, in the peculiar jurisdiction and patronage of the Dean and Chapter of Exeter, rated in the king's books at £18. 15. 10. The church is dedicated to St. Winifred. Here are extensive quarries of freestone.
