The Very Rev the Dean of Exeter, President of the Association delivered Kingsley's eulogy at its July 1919 Tiverton meeting. Charles Kingsley (12 June 1819 - 23 January 1875) was a priest of the Church of England, a university professor, historian and novelist. He is particularly associated with the West Country and was a friend of, and correspondent with Charles Darwin. Kingsley's interest in history is shown in several of his writings, including The Heroes (1856), a children's book about Greek mythology, and several historical novels, of which the best known are Hypatia (1853), Hereward the Wake (1865) and Westward Ho! (1855). Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the University of California Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
