Report on the Harding Collection of Manuscripts, Records and Historical, Ecclesiastical, Heraldic
and Antiquarian Documents and Notes.
Trans. Devon Assoc. vol. 20 (1888), pp. 49-68.
by
J.R. Chanter
Prepared by Michael Steer
The report, read at the Association's 1888 Exeter meeting focuses on the remarkable, extensive and valuable collection of Lieutenant Colonel Harding of Upcott which he bequeathed to the North Devon Athenaeum and Free Library at Barnstaple. Most of the books and papers in the collection relate to Devonshire, a few to Cornwall (under Third Schedule, p. 66). The Harding Collection is a treasure trove for the antiquarian or the Family Historian. Google with the Archive Organization has sponsored the digitisation of books from several libraries. The Internet Archive makes available, in its Community Texts Collection (originally known as Open Source Books), books that have been digitised by Google from a number of libraries. These are books on which copyright has expired, and are available free for educational and research use. This rare book was produced from a copy held by the Princeton University Library, and is available from the Internet Archive.
