Inside Saint Mark's Church there is a large alabaster tablet with an incised inscription. The body of the tablet contains three arched panels separated by slender columns containing the names of the fallen in gilt. The arches contain carved emblems of the Navy, an emblematic ship, the cross and palms symbolic of victory, and a laurel wreath with crossed rifles and steel helmet of the Military forces. There are 94 names of people who served and died, who were from this parish.

Flanked to the north and east by the South Derbyshire border, historically the parish of Winshill had always been part of Derbyshire until it was transferred to Staffordshire in the 1904.
- This place was a township in the parish of Burton-upon-Trent in Derby county and was incorporated as a seperate, modern Civil Parish in December, 1866.
- This parish was in the ancient Repton and Greasley Hundred (or Wapentake).

In 1846 a small National school was built by subscription. It was used on Sundays as a chapel of Ease for Holy Trinity Church in Burton-on-Trent.
In 1921 the Board of Education purchased "The Woodlands" property to provide a new campus for Burton Girls High School. This became incorporated into the comprehensive Abbot Beyne School in 1975.
