“CHILCOTE, a chapelry in the parish of Clifton-Campville, in the hundred of Repton, in the county of Derby, 6½ miles S.W. of Ashby-de-la-Zouch. The village is situated on a rock, and was rebuilt by the late F. Robertson, Esq. The living is a curacy annexed to the rectory* of Clifton Campville, in the diocese of Lichfield, in the patronage of H. J. Pye, Esq.
The chapel, dedicated to St. Matthew, is a neat structure with beautiful stained-glass windows. The Hall, the seat of the Milwards and Clarkes, has been taken down. Near this place, at a spot called No Ian's Heath, the counties of Leicester, Stafford, Warwick, and Derby adjoin, so that a person may be in all four of them at the same time. The lord of the manor is E. W. Robertson, Esq.”

- This place was an ancient Chapelry and Township in the parish of Clifton-Campville in Derby county. It was incorporated as a separate, modern Civil Parish in December, 1866.
- This place was in the ancient Repton and Gresley Hundred (or Wapentake).
- In 1897 this parish was administratively placed in Leicestershire.
- The citizens of this parish have elected to forgo a formal Parish Council and instead hold periodic Parish Meetings to discuss civic and political issues.
- District governance is provided by the North West Leicestershire District Council.
- Bastardy cases would be heard in the Swadlincote petty session hearings every other Tuesday
- With the passage of the 1834 Poor Law Amendment Act reforms, this parish became a member of the Ashby-de-la-Zouch Poorlaw Union.
