Birchover is served by the Mobile Library on route N, which makes a stop by the Red Lion every fourth Friday in the late morning.
The Library at Matlock will prove useful in your research.
Alternatively, the Bakewell Library is an excellent resource with a Local History section and a Family History section.
- The parish was in the Matlock sub-district of the Bakewell Registration District.

- The Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Michael.
- The formal dedication is to the "Holy Name of Jesus, Saint Michael & All Angels".
- The church had originally just been a Chapel of Ease, but in 1870 it became its own ecclesastical parish.
- The written history of this church is somewhat obscure. It was possibly a catholic chapel originally.
- The church was built in the 1700s.
- The chaple was restored in 1877.
- The church seats 100.

- There is a hermitage, consisting of a shallow cave at the base of the Cratcliffe Rocks about a mile from the church, partly obscured by a Yew tree. The cave contains a crucifix about 4 feet high and a seat, hewn out of the rock. This all appears to date from the 13th century.
- The Anglican parish register dates from 1855.
- The church was in the rural deanery of Bakewell.
- A Wesleyan Methodist chapel was built in 1857 on Main Street. This is now the Wesleyan Reform Church. The chapel was rebuilt in 1908. Unverified reports tell us that the church is closed.

- A Primitive Methodist chapel was built in 1867 on Upper Town Lane. This chapel is also now closed.

- Civil Registration began in July, 1837.
- The parish was in the Matlock sub-district of the Bakewell Registration District.
