Barlow is served by the Mobile Library on route N, which makes a stop on Springfield Road every fourth Wednesday around 11am.

You may prefer to use the comfortable and well-equipped and nearby Library at Dronfield.

"BARLOW, (or Great Barlow) a chapelry and township in the parish of Staveley, in the hundred of Scarsdale, and county of Derby, 4 miles to the N.W. of Chesterfield, its post town. Little Barlow is a hamlet of this township. The living is a perpetual curacy* in the diocese of Lichfield, of the value of £95, in the patronage of the Rector of Staveley. There is a small endowed free school."

Some locals still refer to the village as Barley.

Jane TAYLOR in Redcar offers this clipping from the Derby Mercury of 29 August 1804: "MARRIED: On Wednesday last, at Dronfield, in this county, Mr. Thomas WILSON, to Miss Ellen RAYNES; both of Barlow."

• This place was a Chapelry in Stavely parish in Derby county.
   
• It was incorporated as a separate, modern Civil Parish in 1871.
   
• This parish was in the ancient Scarsdale Hundred (or Wapentake).
