Church History

An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Basford, Blakenhall, Bridgemere, Checkley cum Wrinehill, Chorlton, Doddington, Hatherton, Hough, Hunsterson, Lea, Rope, Shavington, Stapeley, Walgherton, Weston by Crewe and Wybunbury, and part of the township of Willaston.

The district was affected by the following boundary changes:

• 1840 — reduced when the townships of Bridgemere, Checkley cum Wrinehill, Doddington, and Hunsterson were transferred to Doddington: St. John.
• 1840 — reduced when the townships of Basford, Chorlton and Weston were transferred to Weston by Crewe: All Saints.
• 1926 August 13 — reduced when part of the township of Shavington was transfered to Crewe: St. Andrew.
• 1927 July 5 — reduced when the following area was transferred to Nantwich: St. Mary: "A portion of the Parish of the said Benefice of Wybunbury, that is to say so much of the said Parish as is bounded upon the east by the Parish of the Benefice of Wistaston, in the said County and Diocese, upon the north and upon the west by the Parish of the said Benefice of Nantwich and upon the south by an imaginary line following the middle of the Crewe and Shrewsbury Branch Line of the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (formerly the London and
  North Western Railway)".
